About

Kyla Ring
Lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
Born in Wagga Wagga, Australia 1975.

Kyla works across mediums of drawings on paper, installation, sculpture, animation and textiles.

Her drawings are a form linear meditation on time and often she works in pairs to create conversations. They are not quite inverse impressions of each other and it is the slight discrepancies that create the dialogue of interest in the drawn conversations. Kyla’s work is interested in what she calls these discrepancies ‘miscommunicaes’, the moments that slip through comprehension dropouts in calls, the signifiers of body language lost to a head turn or foot itch, the words not spoken, the wrinkle in the brow that don’t always translate across from one to the other.

In 2011 Kyla has undertaken two artist residencies, with a solo exhibition titled 'Ombres and double entendres' and a solo site specific drawing installation mon Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour for the Underbelly Arts  Festival 2011. She has been exhibiting in group shows since 2005 in Sydney, Melbourne, Berlin, Paris and South Korea.

Kyla travelled the world between 2007-2009 in pursuit of art and adventure. She immersed herself in art, saw as many of the must see galleries and museums and undertook several artist residencies in Paris and Berlin and setting up and co-directed an ARI in Berlin during 2008. Kyla  continues making art in Sydney.
