Lovely way to catch drips from a down pipe, reminds me of my mesh fungi sculptures I made nestles around similiar house piping.

Slipstream a duo exhibition by Kyla and Cara in Kreuzberg, Berlin.

Works above by Cara MacLeod, 2009.

Works above by Kyla Ring, 2009.

Friday, August 21

It's duo exhibition time folks and La Bastellerie is pleased to present Slipstream, a site-specific installation of sculptures and drawings by Kyla Ring and Cara MacLeod. In Slipstream, the artists explore the common elements of water and air, as well as movement, suspense and release from different personal, social and environmental perspectives.

Kyla Ring is concerned with people's daily use of resources and the inconsistencies apparent in our sometimes uncanny habits and attitudes. She releases objects from their everyday function and recontextualises them in insightful and humorous sculptural installations which often call for playful audience interaction.

Cara MacLeod is showing works from a recent cycle of drawings and collages in which she explores the relationship between the figure and the elements and structures that surround us. Cara superimposes and combines found images of people, landscapes and geometric forms of modernist architecture. The effect is a tension between motion and stasis as figures and forms are simultaneously suspended in space and grounded on the picture plane.

La Bastellerie is brought to you by Ina and Cati the funky ladies who do wild craft parties in Berlin, perhaps you've been before otherwise next time in their new workshop space ( which we have been kindly welcomed to show off our art) they will be opening in october stay tuned to their myspace for more info. http://www.myspace.com/labastellerie

Where is all the inbetween sustainable clothing?

I am searching for sustainable clothing options as I need a new skirt and jacket, but there is a gap the green fashion out there is either comfy casual or chic flooncy and way beyond my budget, come on I know I will find it out there somewhere ..... maybe it will take some more time, a year or so! What we need is affordable sustainable fashion, not just for those with the cash. Maybe I'll have to make it myself but I am trying to break that cycle as a treat for my birthday, bring on the second hand goodies they never let me down.

BAMBUS AUTO!

BAMBUS AUTO!
So we have our sustainable bamboo outfit, now for the vehicle, pity it's not a bike.

Sushi mountain towards a great divide.

A collaborative work by Kyla Ring and Cara MacLeod 2008. 'Sushi mountain towards a great divide' was created in residency at the Atelier en commun in Paris. At this point Cara had been working on a drawing series based on the book Les Alps and I was playing with drawing in the third dimension creating portals and voids using plastic palette tape.

This work for me emerged from my experiences in a fully open plan 3 level studio space made for 100 artists to use at any given time, you share tables and chairs when you were not on a set residency program.

My interest in the concept of the great divide of personal and shared space - the lack of walls around peoples studio spaces had a huge impact. My attention came back to peoples behaviours and the divides they put around themselves or which formed due to natural differences likes and dislikes.

Whilst co-running the Frohsinnberg Projekt ARI in the second half of 2008, it gave way for the perfect site specific installation with awful feng shui - columms breaking up rooms and beams jutting out .... a perfect space for a work about divides.

Pockettree at Fashion Reloaded garments go to Auction ...

Above: 'So last season' by pockettree.

This title goes back afew years now Cara & I were brainstorming and came up with it whilst enjoying a break in the studio, and before the auction I thought yep this title was made for today and the masses were into it! So Last Season is also the name of my upside-down range and today I found out there is a Scandinavian label with the same name of cause it's a great phrase. After the event I thought I'd check them out and they have a very similar garment as you see above, there's is a polished design all beautiful typical of scandianvian design - smick made with new fabrics not like my version made whilst we had 30min heats to whip up clothes from the old threads piled in the room.

I just love that ideas are not about the individual anymore, this event was suported by Creative Commons and one desig label has open source patterns of their garments nice!
